SPCHEA member benefits

When you join SPCHEA, you will not only become part of a homeschool community, you will receive the following benefits:

SPCHEA Scribe: A monthly newsletter that includes a calendar of events, articles, used curriculum for sale, field trip announcements, and other items of interest to home education.

SPCHEA Directory: This is a confidential publication for the use of membership communication only. It includes name, address, phone number, e-mail address, names and birth dates of children. It is sent to each member for a fee. (Please see application for ordering.)

E-mail Notices and website: Members with access to the internet and e-mail can receive periodic updates about timely events and opportunities not found in the newsletter.

Field Trips: There are generally 2 to 3 field trips each month (sometimes more). These are geared to different age groups, and cover a wide variety of interests.

Ladies Meetings: Meetings are held monthly as an opportunity for fellowship and support, and a time of "teacher training" on many> educational topics.

Convention: This book fair is held at the end of the school year. It usually brings vendors from all over the United States, with new curriculum and teaching materials, as well as training workshops, that will satisfy your schooling needs.

STANFORD Achievement Tests: If you are a SPCHEA member, and desire to evaluate your child's progress, annual testing is available. Qualified, trained homeschooling parents oversee and administer the tests.

Graduation Ceremonies: At the end of the school year, the parents of seniors hold a graduation ceremony for their children. It is a joyous time for those that have worked for many years to complete their studies.

Art Show: This event is usually held in March, and is open to all ages and styles of artwork.

Science Fair: An annual Science Fair, with areas of competition for all grade levels, is held every November, with opportunity to advance to the regional Science Fair.

PSIA: Private Schools Interscholastic Association provides an opportunity for students to compete academically with other homeschool and private school students. It is like UIL, which is only available to public schools.

THSC: The Texas Home School Coalition offers SPCHEA members a $15.00 discount off of their $85 membership fee. Also SPCHEA members can receive the “Handbook for Texas Homeschoolers” when purchased through us for $12 instead of the regular price of $18 through THSC.
